The first flowers

The Twinning Association has grown out of the English Club (founded in April 1998) and created 21st December 1998, by people from St Sébastien who enjoyed English language.

This association is registered no 0442025068. The Association's Memorandum and Articles are registered at the Préfecture of Loire-Atlantique. The Executive Committee is responsible for implementing all activities put forward by the Committee.

The first exchanges took place in March and April 1999 and culminated in the signing of the Twinning Charter, signed by the Mayors of St Sébastien and of Porthcawl, and by the Chairpersons of the two Twinning Committees.

1998

• English Club, every Monday evening at 7:00 (House of Citizens Community Centre). Closed during school holidays. Founded April.
• 21st December : Foundation of the Saint-Sébastiens-sur-Loire - Porthcawl Town Twinning Association.

1999

• English Club, every Monday evening at 7:00 (House of Citizens Community Centre). Closed during school holidays.
• 18th-23rd March : delegation from Porthcawl in Saint-Sébastiens-sur-Loire to sign the Twinning Charter on 21th.
• 21st-25th April : people from Saint-Sébastiens-sur-Loire travel to Porthcawl to countersign the Twinning Charter on 23rd.
• 8th-18th October : participation in associations' show.
• 28th December : depositing of the Twinning Charter in the Attic of the Century, in Nantes (to be openned 1st January 2100).

2000

• 8th April : 1st annual meeting of the Franco-Welsh Twinning Committees of the département of Loire-Atlantique in Saint-Sébastiens-sur-Loire.
• 15th-22nd May : horticulturists from Neat - Port Talbot College visiting Saint-Sébastiens-sur-Loire.
• June : launching of the association's newsletter.
• 24th-29th July : people from Porthcawl in Saint-Sébastiens-sur-Loire to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Saint-Sébastiens-sur-Loire - Glinde (Germany) Town Twinning.
• 16th August : launching of the association's web site.
• 9th December : Christmas Lights.

2001

• English Club, every Monday evening at 7:00 (Jean Mace Community Centre). Closed during school holidays.
• 24th February : 2nd annual meeting of the Franco-Welsh Twinning Committees of the département of Loire-Atlantique in Orvault.
• 25th March : bingo.
• 8th-15th April : people from Saint-Sébastiens-sur-Loire travel to Porthcawl.
• 29th May : concert performed by the Dolgellau Male Voice Choir.
• 22nd-23rd September : participation in associations' show.
• 22th-27th October : photo exhibition by the twin or partner towns with Saint Sébastien sur Loire, organized by the Municipal Office for International Relations (OMRI).
• 27th November - 1st December : week of the Welsh Literature, featuring Samantha Wynne Rhydderch and Jakez Gaucher.
• 1st December : Christmas Lights.

2002
